Rather than surfing the web when you are woebegone at work, use your e-mail for mental escape.  DailyLit saved me at my previous job.

DailyLit allows you to subscribe to books that have an expired copyright.  Once you enter your e-mail address & subscribe to a book, you are given daily installments in your in-box.  So you are enjoying literature while you appear to be intently reading your e-mail!  Pure evil genius!  Once you have finished that day’s installment, you may select a link to have the next installment sent you immediately rather than wait another day.  If the book is drag, you can remove it from your subscription list.

The site now has books for sale and the commercial evolulution of the site is unsurprising.  But free readings are still available on DailyLit.  It’s a great way to read classic books in manageable installments.  And you sound a lot smarter at cocktail parties.
